Red Cross responds to two apartment fires in Indianapolis and Brownsburg



Red Cross disaster workers responded to two apartment fires the morning of Thursday, April 22. Volunteers and staff met one-on-one with families affected by fires at the Inverness Apartments in Indianapolis and the Brownsburg Crossing Apartments in Brownsburg to determine their immediate needs and give emergency assistance for things such as food, clothing and shelter.

Four families were displaced from their homes at the Inverness Apartments complex. Red Cross caseworkers provided emergency assistance for food to the four families and housing assistance to two of the families.

Eight families were affected by the Brownsburg Crossing Apartments fire. Caseworkers met with the families and provided emergency assistance to two families. Volunteers with the Red Cross Mobile Feeding Team also provided drinks and snacks to firefighters and other responders on the scene.

This week the Greater Red Cross also responded to fires at the Kingswood Square Apartments in Indianapolis and the Carmel Landings Apartments in Westfield, addressing the unmet emergency needs of displaced residents and referring them to additional community resources.

The American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to respond to disasters and other emergencies. Since July 1, 2009, the Greater Indianapolis Red Cross has assisted 435 families (1,401 individuals) who have been affected by home fires.
