Red Cross disaster volunteers reach out to Patton Lake residents affected by flash flooding
Three Greater Indianapolis Red Cross disaster volunteers are heading to Martinsville's Patton Lake subdivision to hand out clean-up kits (mops, pails, cleaning supplies, etc.), work gloves, trash bags and bottled water to residents dealing with the aftermath of flash flooding caused by weekend thunderstorms.
Volunteers, Frank and Mary Kominowski and Jeff Evans, will drive a Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) through the area distributing the supplies and assessing the damage. All three are veteran disaster volunteers. Frank Kominowski and Evans recently returned from providing flood relief in Tennessee in May. Kominowski worked in bulk distribution while Evans was a client caseworker.
Red Cross reminds central Indiana residents that while floods can take up to a several hours or a few days to develop, flash floods can take only a few minutes to a few hours to develop. Go to the Be Red Cross Ready section of this Web site to learn more about flood safety.
