Red Cross helps 14 families involved in seven separate fires
In the last seven days, the Greater Indianapolis Red Cross has helped 14 families after seven separate fires damaged or destroyed their homes. The latest was Monday afternoon, when a family of ten on Treyburn Greenway on Indianapolis's eastside were helped by the Red Cross after their vehicle in the garage caught the house on fire, resulting in demolition of the house late Monday night. The Red Cross provided shelter, food, clothing and other assistance to the family whose ages range from one to 60.
Red Cross Disaster Action Team members from Hendricks, Henry, Madison, Marion and Johnson counties helped the other 13 families after fires damaged or destroyed their homes last weekend, meeting their fire-caused needs of food, clothing and shelter as well.
The most common disaster in central Indiana is the home fire. These quiet personal tragedies take a toll on hundreds of Hoosier households each year, one family at a time. Last year, the Greater Indianapolis Red Cross helped more than 550 central Indiana families after fires.
The American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to respond to disasters and other emergencies. All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by the voluntary donations of time and money from the American people.
